Video feedback/learner response

1) Type up your feedback from your teacher. WWW: good editing, good song choice and use of monochrome EBI: Faster editing for the contrapuntal sound 2) Type up your feedback from fellow students - you can summarise key points if several students give you similar feedback. WWW: Funny, Good use of videos and images, Nice prom videos, Good song EBI: Faster pace for contrapuntal, low resolution images and pictures not framed properly 3) Now  reflect  on your work and write your own evaluation of your video. Write a 'What went well' (WWW) paragraph and a paragraph for 'Even Better If' (EBI) underneath the rest of your feedback. WWW: I think that the for the first part which is the parallel sound bit was really good and the cuts and editing to the beat of the song was really good. I think that the use of videos was really good and fit well with the song which was a party and upbeat song. I think that for the second part of the clip which was the contrapuntal sound the images

Parallel Vs Contrapuntal sound practical

Parallel sound is used at first because the upbeat music compliments the happy and party scenes whereas at the end contrapuntal sound is used which contrasts the sad scenes

Sound analysis

  1) Find a film clip on YouTube that uses sound in an interesting way. Analyse the use of sound, making sure you use the key language we have learned about sound in film:  The clip uses Diegetic sound such as the girl running into the elevator, the people talking to each other ( dialogue )  and  the elevator bell and the doors opening which makes the audience feels as though it is a real office. The music coming from the headphones shows what the woman can hear so is diegetic sound. The sound can be parallel as it is calming and they are not doing much however it could be contrapuntal as well because of the mans initial facial expression which looks sad and the costumes which are very dull shades of grey and brown which do not match how upbeat the music is. However as his his facial expression becomes happier after the two people talk the music becomes parallel as the upbeat music matches how he feels. The sound effect of the elevator bell is an example of foley sound but is diegetic

  1) Type up your feedback from your teacher in full. WWW: Good planning, Courier script, Good performance and accents, good framing, good camerawork, mise en scene EBI: Add soundtrack, remove background noise 2) Type up a summary of the feedback you have had from the rest of the class - bullet points is fine. Good acting Good camera shots 3) Use all the feedback you've been given to write your own self-assessment of your video using WWW (What Went Well) and EBI (Even Better If...) WWW: Acting and camera shots/angles EBI: Focus more on the sound and make sure there is no unessesary noise  4) Now reflect on your own work in more detail. How d id your  planning (script, shot list) help clarify and develop your ideas? The shot list helped to recreate the scenes and get the framing right and the script helped to copy the outfits and acting 5) Thinking technically, how could you improve your work for future videos? (E.g. filming, editing, audio levels etc.) pay more attention to the sou

Lighting

   1) Still image analysis Look at the still images on slides 33-37 of the Film Language Powerpoint linked above. Copy the images into your blog and answer the following questions for  each  image: Identify examples of  high  and  low-key  lighting. Say which depict  top ,  back  or  under lighting . What  effects  are created by the lighting in each image?      Note: if the images don't display correctly in your blog then simply use the number of each image and answer the three questions for each.    Lowkey lighting Top lighting This creates a femme fatale effect as it accentuates her facial features  High key lighting Under lighting Creates the effect that the man is powerful as it adds shadows below his eyes and face making him looking grimacing   Low key lighting Top lighting This highlights the mans face and contrasts him with the darkness of his background which presents him as an authority figure and emphasises his power high key lighting Under lighting This creates a shadow
